WMUR: NH Primary Source: Citizens United head Bossie endorses Messner for US Senate

Endorsement comes after Republican Bolduc calls for overturning landmark 2010 decision

BOSSIE WEIGHS IN. Citizens United leader David Bossie waded into the New Hampshire Republican U.S. Senate primary Tuesday to endorse attorney Bryant "Corky" Messner over retired U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Donald Bolduc.

Bossie has long headed the conservative political advocacy group that is the namesake of the landmark 2010 U.S. Supreme Court decision that struck down federal laws prohibiting corporate and union spending in federal elections.

Overturning Citizens United has become a rallying cry mostly for Democratic officeholders and candidates for office and for progressive government and election reform advocates. Some Republicans – although they are few and far between -- have also taken that position.

Bolduc is in that category. He wrote in a letter to state legislators last week setting out his position on congressional and election reform that he favors a constitutional amendment overturning the Citizens United decision.
